While all dairy cattle produce milk, they all come in many different colors and sizes. Each breed is unique and is provided with high quality care from their farmers! Let’s take a closer look into each breed!

🐄Holsteins are known for having the highest milk production, producing about 9 gallons per day. This breed also makes up over 90% of dairy cattle in the US!

🤎Jerseys are small brown cows that have higher butterfat content within their milk. This makes their milk great for butter and cheese making!

🏔️Brown Swiss originated in the Swiss Alps. Due to their orgain they can thrive in both cold winters and hot summers.

💛Guernsey’s have high beta-carotene levels making their milk have a golden/yellow appearance.

🌱Ayrshire’s are efficient grazers as they originated in Scotland.

♥️Milking Shorthorn have a long productive life as they can live up to 20 years old. (average is about 10 years)

Flashback Friday! Welcome back to another update w Flashback Friday!
Welcome back to another update where we highlight a few of the events SRT attended in February.
🔹 Jesslyn attended the First Citizens Community Bank Ag Forum on February 24. Along with Lebanon County Dairy Maid Evelyn Maulfair, she hosted a booth featuring “The Amazing Race: How Milk Gets From Cow to You” and a Real vs. Imitation Dairy Product activity, where visitors identified real dairy products and imitation alternatives. Jesslyn and Evelyn also attended a keynote session about the role of AI in agriculture. Jesslyn then shared about her role as a member of the PDPPS program.
🔹 Bry attended the AgCom Sprayers Meeting, February 13. While there she talked about her role and how dairy promotion supports farm families and the future of our industry.
🔹 Bry continued promoting February 16 at Cross Keys Village Retirement Community, where she delivered Valentine’s cards and milk to residents. She shared a presentation about how dairy farmers care for their cows and enjoyed hearing residents’ stories and connections to agriculture. One special highlight was meeting PC resident M.E. Gruver, who served as the Cumberland County Alternate Dairy Princess in 1946.
🔹 Jesslyn attended the Annual Allied Milk Producers meeting February 26 to update members on where and how PDPPS has been promoting the dairy industry throughout 2025-2026.

SRT had an incredible start to February, attending the Pennsylvania Dairy Summit through the Young Dairy Professionals Scholarship.🎉🐄 They are incredibly grateful for the opportunity awarded by the Center for Dairy Excellence.🙌🥛

During the Summit, SRT participated in sessions focused on executive leadership skills 💼✨, engaged in meaningful conversations about the “undiscussable” 💬, and explored heifer feeding strategies that truly make a difference 🌱🐮. They also had the opportunity to serve ice cream from Taylor Chip Cookie Co. 🍦, greet guests at the premiere showing of A World Without Cows 🎬, and conclude the week by presenting a milk toast at the final breakfast 🥛. It was a time filled with growth, opportunity, networking, and discovering their “True North” 🧭✨.

The momentum continued at the Pennsylvania Holstein Convention 🐄🏆. While there, SRT presented a milk toast at the Dignitaries Banquet, served as judges for the Man on the Street Youth Contest 🎤, and helped run bids during the convention sale. The weekend wrapped up Sunday with a milk toast and remarks at the Youth Awards Breakfast 🏅🥛. Thank you to the Pennsylvania Holstein Association for allowing SRT to be a part of this memorable experience!💙✨
